“Brain Map” 2018, charcoal on paper, 4 x 8′.
“Brain Map” is a drawing about individual emotions, desires and fetishes meshed into a chaotic collective entanglement. Growing up in Communist China and later on receive my education in the west, the ideas of collectivity and individuality constantly shapes the way to see the world. I, as an individual, could be seen as a character in this drawing; I, as a collective, could see each character in this drawing as a realignment of electrons in my neural network. Therefore, what I create could be both a reflection of the world I live in as well as the world within me. I paint chaotic images because I feel the responsibility to give equal representation to every realignment of electrons in my neural network.
